WASHINGTON, D.C., July 3rd, 2025 — On Wednesday, the House joined the Senate in passing President Trump’s budget, legislation that will damage America’s public safety, clean energy industry, and economic growth.
In response, Janos Marton, Chief Advocacy Officer at Dream.Org, issued the following statement:
“This bill takes America in the wrong direction - gutting clean energy tax credits that are lowering energy costs, creating good jobs, and keeping us competitive with China, and stripping essential Medicaid funding that millions rely on for mental health, addiction treatment, and other services that make our communities safer. All to give billionaires a bigger tax break.”
Repealing clean energy tax credits from the Inflation Reduction Act doesn’t just roll back progress. It attacks hundreds of thousands of American jobs, cancels over 280 planned factories, and wipes out more than $220 billion in local investment. It also slows the progress of new energy at a time when projects with massive energy demands like data centers are coming online, which will balloon energy costs for families across the country.
At the same time, the bill’s deep Medicaid cuts will strip healthcare, mental health support, and addiction treatment from millions, and leave another 17 million Americans without insurance. From opioid recovery to crisis response, Medicaid provides care that keeps people out of jails and emergency rooms and on the path to stability. This would weaken one of America’s most effective tools for preventing crime and promoting public safety for the sake of tax cuts for billionaires and millionaires.
“Public safety starts with prevention. When people have access to care, we see less crime, less addiction, and lower incarceration rates. Slashing Medicaid now will only harm individuals, families, and communities, and we’ll all by paying for that in the years to come - in dollars and in lives. Our communities will not just ‘get over it,’ we’ll be left to deal with the wreckage of these cuts,” said Marton.
Dream.Org has a strong history of working across the aisle on this country’s most pressing challenges. This bill, passed on partisan lines, will devastate America’s health and prosperity. Nevertheless, moving forward we stand ready to work on common ground solutions to get the country back on track, just as we worked with a massive coalition of industry groups, community organizations, labor and others in opposing this bill. That includes working with Republicans who we know care about America’s clean energy future and the health of its people. In September we will converge on Washington, D.C. to build bipartisan support for our Public Health is Public Safety campaign to end the overdose crisis.
Lastly, we want to thank Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) for standing up for Medicaid and clean energy programs. Political courage is hard to come by in these times, and we appreciate when we see it. We also want to express our gratitude to the millions of Americans who stood up and made their voices heard in this process.
