September Green Tea

September 30, 2023

It’s an exciting time for environmental justice and climate change mitigation! It’s been one year since the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) was signed into law, and we are starting to see a glimpse of the impact that this historic legislation will have on the communities most impacted by climate change. Dream.Org is at the forefront of this movement, working with organizations, political leaders, and communities across the country to draw down federal dollars and advance climate equity.

Convening Diverse Leaders in Climate Finance

The Climate Investments team recently hosted a panel on 'Innovative Financing Mechanisms for Climate Resilience,' featuring Director Shalanda Baker from the Department of Energy’s Office of Economic Impact and Diversity as the keynote speaker. Panelists and attendees represented the span of stakeholders in climate finance, including government, the finance and private sectors, and community advocates. Participants engaged in dialogue about how to bridge gaps, encourage public-private partnerships, and make IRA implementation just for all.

Dream.Org in DC

Throughout the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation's 52nd Annual Legislative Conference (ALC), Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Leadership Conference (CHCI), and 46th Annual Awards Gala, our team held essential meetings with Members of Congress to elevate the unique needs of our Transformative Communities.

Raising the Bar on Community Engagement

The Green For All team recently published a report that highlights best practices for community engagement to help guide the planning and implementation of Inflation Reduction Act climate programs. We believe that communities are the experts on both the problems they face and the solutions they need to solve them. Our team is integrating these best practices across all areas of our work - from on-the-ground relationship building with community partners to our advocacy work on Capitol Hill.

Shaping the Future National Green Bank Network

As part of our partnership with the Coalition for Green Capital and dozens of partners, the Green For All team helped shape a leading proposal for the $27 Billion Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, helping ensure robust community engagement and education were incorporated into program recommendations. Together, we are proposing a national green bank network that uplifts communities most impacted by climate change, removes barriers to financing for clean energy projects, and builds a more inclusive green economy.
