Dream.Org Brings Power in the Problem Homecoming Tour Back to HBCUs for a Second Year

October 07, 2026

Traveling HBCU panel and green career fair returns to North Carolina and Washington D.C. to connect students with clean energy careers and build civic power

Oakland, California - October 6th, 2026 - For a second year, Dream.Org will be hosting its Power in the Problem HBCU Homecoming Tour with stops in North Carolina and Washington D.C. The tour is a traveling HBCU panel and green career fair aimed at celebrating Black brilliance, connecting students and community members to green career pathways, and building civic power.

The full schedule includes:

  • North Carolina A&T: Thursday, October 15
  • North Carolina Central University: Monday, October 19
  • Howard University: Thursday, October 22nd

“Last year proved that when you put HBCU students in the room with opportunity, they don’t just show up, they show out!” says Jasmine Davenport, Dream.Org’s VP of Program Strategy. “That’s why continuing the Power in the Problem tour matters. We’re building a bridge between the brilliance already on these campuses and the employers, leaders, and opportunities shaping the future. This year is about going bigger, deeper partnerships, stronger pathways, and making sure students leave knowing that they have a place in the future and the power to shape it.”

Each tour stop will begin with a mini job fair featuring employers and orgs offering internships, fellowships, and green career pathways followed by a panel with students, alumni, and leaders who have turned challenges into opportunities. There will also be interactive stations where students can pledge to vote and create their own voting plan.

The North Carolina stops will be sponsored by Climate Power, with Black Voters Matter returning to encourage civic engagement by educating students on organizing, and the NC Dept of Environmental Quality tabling and participating in the fireside chats.

For too long, Black and brown communities have been viewed only through the lens of crisis—pollution, poverty, incarceration, and disinvestment. The Power in the Problem Tour hopes to reframe public discourse around Black communities particularly surrounding environmental challenges, to increase civic participation among young Black voters, and to connect Black youth and justice-impacted individuals to real opportunities in clean energy, reentry support, and climate-tech careers.

To register, students can visit the event pages for North Carolina A&T, North Carolina Central University, and Howard University.
