Everyday Acts of Democracy

November 24, 2024

As citizens, our duty to protect democracy extends far beyond the ballot box. From how we show up in tough conversations to how we engage with our communities, we can make an active choice to choose democracy – everyday.

As we grapple with the election results, I have been asking the question, “What is America, and what could it still be?” Threats to our hard fought freedoms while the country continues to remain painfully divided is a democracy killer. But the founding promise to build a more perfect union is urgently upon us. We need your help to build that dream.

The majority of Americans want to protect our freedoms and bridge divides, they just don’t know how. But you do.

Dream.Org invites you to broadcast your voice and share your wisdom with those who are yearning to make a difference. What is one action – one “everyday act of democracy” – that anyone can take to strengthen our country? From dialogue to belonging, from service to civic engagement, there are a number of ways we can enlist our collective ingenuity. Help showcase the possibilities by sharing an anecdote, piece of wisdom, or lesson learned.

America must always, to use Anna Julia Cooper’s words, “be moved one generation forward.” Now it is our turn.

The future starts with us. Let’s keep dreaming together.
